Items to remember-
-Passport/State Issued ID/Visa/Photo ID
-Tickets- Printed
-Printed Itinerary/Online/Downloaded Itinerary
-Medications
-Vaccine Records (depending where you travel this might be required)
-Local currency- enough for a few days
-Credit card- With Zero international fees- (Chase CC’s are some of our favorite cards for international trips): Use this for incidentals, tap to pay locations etc.
-Tile/Apple tracking tile (for luggage)
-Printed copies of identification: store an extra copy either in your luggage or somewhere besides where you keep your passport/ID in case you might need them. Also leave a printed copy of ID/Passport at home in case you may need someone to fax or mail them to you.
-Travel Insurance: Protect your investment for your dream trip and ensure you have a resource for travel mishaps, delays, cancelled or delayed flights, lost luggage, additional health coverage to provide the necessary coverage for medical assistance/hospital stays in the event that you need it. I recommend:
-Comfortable walking shoes. Preferably already broken in and waterproof is a plus! I recommend 3 pairs at the most (especially if planning on traveling carry-on only (COO) to conserve as much space as possible.
Packing Essentials:
-Use grid packing method to help create a capsule travel wardrobe & pair down on outfits. *Mentioned transition from tourist to traveler post-
-Undergarments
-Socks
-2-3 pairs of shoes (max) that mix & match with every outfit
–Carry on bag: One change of clothes, undergarments, printed itinerary, photocopy of identification, ipad/laptop, book, entertainment for plane, snacks, earplugs, eye mask, compression socks, reusable water bottle, travel blanket/pillow, travel guide/book of destination
–Purse/Personal Item: Cash/Credit Card(s), identification, printed tickets, medications, phone & charging cable, pen/paper, snack
–Checked Luggage: (*Snap a photo of your luggage before you check it, so you have a recent pic to show airline luggage claims if issues with your bag!) clothing, hair/bath/beauty products & essentials, shoes, toiletries, hair brush, blow dryer, coat, etc.
Things to remember:
-If traveling internationally it’s best to give yourself at least a 3-4 hour window at the airport before initial departure, any layover (Some countries/airports you will want even longer window to ensure you have enough time to get from point a-point b (landing gate, through security checkpoints, restroom stop/food break, water bottle refill station, gate for next departure).
-Since covid 19, travel has become more unpredictable meaning flights are changing all the time, gate info might not be available until just before boarding (like only 10-15 minutes prior). Flights may be canceled for no apparent reason, delayed and airports may have employees randomly on strike!
-Always travel with travel insurance *Especially on a once in a lifetime, expensive trip! Of course you can travel without it but you just never know and then you’re leaving yourself open for a lot of extra expenses that might occur if delays or cancellations happen….to those who choose to forgo the insurance all I have to say is “May the odds (of not needing it) ever be in your favor!”
